Observations

  • Aside from loanee Michael Keane returning to Manchester United, all players who featured in at least 25% of possible minutes for Leicester are still with the club. They’re the only Football League side to have all but one of their core players still with the club.
  • It’s interesting to see promoted Bournemouth so high in this list – like Newport in League 2 and Bradford in League 1, they’ve retained the bulk of their promotion-winning side. It’ll be interesting to see if continuity of personnel helps these teams to establish themselves at a higher level.
  • There’s been significantly higher player turnover at Birmingham, Blackpool and Ipswich than anywhere else in the division, with the latter being the only side in the top two divisions to have lost more of last season’s first team squad than they’ve retained. Is this a potentially damaging level of instability?
  • Keeping the faith with a small core of players (perhaps through necessity) worked wonders for Yeovil in League 1 last season but far less so for Wigan in the Premier League, although fellow casualties QPR and Reading rotated heavily to no avail.
